February 2026 - Sustainable Garden Elements Around Nempnett Thrubwell
I've been completing a lot of dead hedging lately, both in this garden and others. Here we removed a lot of a failing and dying conifer, the material laid in to the stock fencing as dead hedging for all the many benefits it can provide.
The tree structure will be retained as a scaffold for climbing roses and clematis. Other planting areas to develop!
Little features like this are great. Re-using old materials for function and aesthetic.
Near the dead hedge area a block of buddleia. Chosen by the client. Certainly one of my favourite plants nowadays for multiple reasons - wildlife, foliage and form / habit, screening, quick growth..
Logs retained by client and stacked here. I have suggested leaving them as an aesthetic garden design element which naturally slopes down off the sleepers.
Another project back at the farm, lots of bramble bashing and clearance in the woods for more projects.
